There you go. This is the other of the two keys to the N64 Heaven.
I'll tell you what I had to do to set this little bitch up and give it a go, just to let you know how "easy"
this was.
First, there was 100 € of customs. Period. Bah. Who cares about money at this point anymore anyway.
Second, I had to redig what remained of my old PII pc because of the ISA card that comes with the Partner N.
This was actually the hardest part. The machine was missing everything : Hard disk, softwares, and an ATX converter
- which I discovered being burnt. I decided to upgrade one of my work HDD from 20 GB to 160 GB and used the latter
for the system. So now I had a HDD. Got an old CD of Win98SE, installed it. Damn the bitch doesnt have a LAN interface.
Got one from an old PC in the office. Two days searching for the driver. Oh man. Once I downloaded them I was happy, but I had
to teach WIN98SE to use it, which took almost a day's time. Thank you Billy, for your fantastic system! I wonder
if the ISA card has drivers for UNIX systems too? Another mystery for the future!
My plan was to install everything on the machine, then use it from a remote desktop to reduce the complexity (and space wasting) of
the whole installation. Installed the ISA card, the complete N64 SDK, Remote Administrator, and, of course, Hex Workshop.
I was lately able to get Borland's C++ 6.0, which I'll install too. Oh and I got a nice firewall and avast!
personal edition on it too. SO now I thought I was ready. But what about rendering the N64's output? There I could put an old Video Capture
Card to a good use (its a USB stick). But...NO DRIVERS - again. Damnit. NO way to dl them from the Net. This was getting me
anxious. At last I was able to get them by contacting the producer (which wasnt easy to find at all).
So here you go. The first ones are screenshots from the interiors of the Partner N card, and the IPL ROM card (which contains Font & Wave Data only)
and from the early installation, as I had everything lying in my room. A true mess I would say! The second, more compact installation is piloted remotely, rendered on the Video Capture USB interface. |
